WebFox Backup is built around a client software program that runs on your computer on a scheduled, typically once a day basis. This program collects, compresses, encrypts, and transfers your data to our servers housed in a tier 1 data centre.
Online backups have many advantages over traditional backup methods including:
Easy to manage
The backup servers and equipment is hosted in Orcon's data centre in Auckland. Orcon's data centre has electronic keypad access to the rasied floor, including locked doors between public and staging areas. The data centre itself is all raised floor with overhead cabling, redundant cooling and UPS with generator supply backup, and locked cabinets.
The WebFox Backup client software that is loaded on your computer encrypts (and compresses) your data before sending over the internet and it stays encrypted while on our servers. The encryption is 128-bit symmetric key encryption (you can choose between AES, TripleDES, TwoFish). Communication between your computer and our servers also uses https which provides yet another lay of security.
When your files are stored and held on the backup servers, no one but you can see the name or the contents of the files. Note, it is very important to write down your password and keep in a safe place. If the encryption key is lost, you will not be able to recover your files from the encrypted backup (thats how safe it is!).
Security Features:
For maximum security, we recommend AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) Algorithm, CBC (Cipher Block Chaining) mode and use an encrypting key with more than 8 characters. We recommend the use of AES as it has been chosen as the encryption standard for commercial use.
WebFox Backup performs your backups automatically and stores your data off-site without manual effort on your part.
Your files are easily restored using the same WebFox Backup software. You can view your backed up files, select the file to be restored and click restore. You can restore individual files, folders or the entire backup (we recommend before restoring the entire backup you call us so we can discuss the most appropriate recovery method).
WebFox Backup Software is developed with Java. Therefore, will run on all common operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Mac, NetWare, UNIX.
WebFox Backup includes modules for backing up commonly used database and email servers. System administrators are able to activate or deactivate individual modules for different users.
These modules include:
